Help me out... something I've never understood about the PDC with Lancaster....

Here's the quote that nearly all the news outlets stated in the story last year about this time when the news broke...

A two-year deal has been signed with the Lancaster JetHawks of the California League, with an automatic extension through 2012 to be agreed upon at the end of the 2009 season.

Try to make sense of this with me. Here's what I thought I read...

They move him from Catcher to the Outfield and his numbers went up.

As of 08/18/09 he is hitting .335 avg 17 hrs 107 rbi 3sb .415 OBP .596 slg 1.011 OPS

granted he is in Lexington but still these are double the numbers he had at the end of last year.

Have you guys seen that he keeps putting up good numbers in AAA Round Rock? He's been a consistent .304 hitter the last 2 seasons at AAA. I know he's had trouble hitting in the MLB, but is it something where he can't keep up with the pitches or is it more that it's a mental thing?

I'm starting to think they moved him up to fast from AA to the Majors. He had 40 at bats at RR in 2007. Then last year he moved up to the Majors just to be sent back down, where he...

Jiovanni Mier Update

After signing last week, Mier reported to Rookie League Greenville. He got hits in his first two at-bats. Today, he went 3 for 4 with a BB and 2 RBI. I know his progression through the system will be slower than Castros last year, but its nice to see your top picks off to a good start.

Out of Cali. Kid had great BA, is 6-2 and 170. Organization thinks he'll grow into some power, apparently. Hopefully he'll be a good one for us in the future! Sure wish we woulda taken a pitcher, but the first round is all about taking the best guy available.

Saw the Express at Zephyr Field in Metairie, La., just outside of New Orleans, today. Getaway day start of 11:30 a.m. And the Express played like they were ready to get out of town, falling, 7-1.

I saw Bud Norris' start last night for Round Rock against New Orleans. He pitched very well through 6 (1h, 1 r, 8k). They left him in a bit long as he was already pushing 100 pitches going into the 7th where he was clearly tired and gave up a few more runs. He was spotting his 93-94 mph fastball well and the Zephyers were clearly having problems with his breaking balls (lots of swing and misses on pitches in the dirt).
