"Nobody has pitched better than Roger Clemens."
"But that's what it's about, wins."
Yes Joe, the Cy Young is all about wins.

I flipped over to the Angels/Red Sox game on ESPN tonight. The topic of NL CY came up with Dontrelle going for 20. Morgan decided to supply some of his insight...

Note to Little Shmoe: I believe Oswalt had 20 wins last year. Roger didn't.

Joe is always contradicting himself. The sad thing is that he was a brilliant player who almost intuitively understood what was valuable (OBP) but couldn't articulate that as an announcer. All I gotta say is that the Astros pitchers better go to the batting cages if they want to be successful in Morgan's eyes.

I have no problem with former hitters talking about pitching. The problem I have with Joe is that many people think he is the most intelligent baseball announcer out there because he is articulate. It "sounds" good coming out of his mouth, but when you string the words together to decipher the meaning you see there is very little of real worth there. Any fan worth their salt realizes that wins and losses are really a team proposition. Blaming a pitcher for losing a 1-0 game makes no more sense than giving Jeriome Robertson a ton of credit for his 15-7 season back in 2003. Teams win and lose games. Pitchers certainly have a lot to say about that, but so does the lineup.
