So who starts now |
Lead | |
|
So who will start the make-up game? Obviously Roy can't and we don't exactly have a guy who can spot start in the pen. Plus Harville extended himself a little today. So who do we turn to. Will we have to send somebody down and bring up Zeke to start the game or do we start someone on short rest?

That's why starting the game over the next day is stupid. It throws everybody off when it could have just been started where it was left off.

It is stupid but I am still curious who you guys think will start. Wandy will start one game but the other? No way Clemens pitches short rest. I guess Zeke gets another chance huh?

too bad the 80's team celebration is over. I'll bet Joe Niekro could go one more game with his knuckler. Where are Jose Lima and Danny Graves when you need them? (Don't ya know KC and the Mets would jump at the chance to dump them) |

What about Buckholtz?

Quote: Who in the hell is Buckholtz? Now there is a guy in AAA name of Buchholz who is doing a pretty good job of learing how to pitch again after some surgery. Surely you don't mean him, do you? We led the league in card games and crossword puzzles. What happened to all the guys who drank all night, threw up all day, and went out and won baseball games...Ron Kittle.

With a 4:10 start today on the first game, they will have to make a decision fast and get them on the plane. I assume it will be Astacio if he has enough days rest. That's the safest choice considering how well he has pitched in AAA since being sent down. If he's not available, Duckworth or Nieve are possibilities. Nieve has not been in AAA very long; Duckworth has been only slightly better in AAA than he was with the Astros. I noticed Biggio's quote in the newspaper that he always has thought this is a bad rule: counting the stats from the game which was tied, but starting the game over after the rain postponement. This is unfortunate because it could screw up the momentum the Astros had, going into the series. Our starting pitching is our strength, but we are forced to use a AAA starter. Who gets sent down for a day to AAA? Bruntlett?

Quote: Sorry, my mistake. I got mixed up, thinking today was Saturday already. (I have a day off today, which confused me, I guess.) Make up game isn't until 4:10 CDT tommorrow. |

You could pick up Borowski. Sweaty Joe was DFA on Wednesday when Wood came off the DL.

Quote: What good would that do them? He sucks as a reliever. Can't imagine how bad he'd be as a starter. It almost has to be Zeke coming up. Sucks for Round Rock, though. Gothreaux and C Hernandez are on the DL. Buckholz had to leave after 1 inning last night with stiffness in his arm. They are a little short right now. That said, Zeke has been lights out since coming back to AAA. |

Re: who's on the hill? | ||
Quote: Buccholz left his start last night after 1 inning with a stiff shoulder. That basically limits the selection to either Nieve or Astacio. Nieve isn't near ready, so it will be Astacio. The bigger question is: What is the corresponding move? Demote Burns? Release Franco or someone else? |

Can Nolan still suit up?

Re: So who starts now | ||

Depending upon how the bullpen use looks after today's game, they could send a position player (e.g., Bruntlett) down for one day if they need to have a full complement of relievers. Otherwise, I guess Burns would be likely to be sent down.

Re: So who starts now | ||
Quote: HOU already has 12 pitchers, leaving only 5 guys on the bench, so that would leave the bench short. Also, when you send a player down they have to be down for 10 days before being recalled, unless there is an injury (someone would have to go to the DL). |

Duckworth started for Round Rock last Monday. Do the math. He has been doing okay since he was sent down, for whatever that's worth. 7 starts, 2-2, 4.43

It's not on their web site, but I'm assuming Astacio is scheduled to pitch tonight for Round Rock since he pitched last Sunday. So I guess that's another possibility, bumping him from his start tonight to pitch the makeup game in Cincinnati on Saturday. His stats for June: 4-0, 0.99, 1 save. Intriguing...
