This loss tonight will put the Astros' record at 24-19.
The Astros are currently tied with the Phillies ( Also 24-19 ) for the NL wild card lead right now. In case anybody even pays attention to that stuff this early in the season. Not that it really matters right now, I understand that. It's early in the regular season and the Astros are still in good shape. The division race and the wild card race are still there for the taking all season long. It's obvious to me ( like everybody else ) the Astros could use another starting pitcher and probably one or two more relievers, but this is still going to be a competitive team all season long. Ultimately, I think the 2008 Houston Astros will win the National League wild card, but hopefully they can prove me wrong and win the NL Central. I think the Cubs will be tough to catch and pass, but the Astros are probably better than the Cardinals ( even though the Astros did go 2-4 versus the Cardinals in the six games played so far this year ). Roy Oswalt versus the Rangers at 6:05 p.m. tomorrow night... The Astros have to win tomorrow's game. The Astros need to improve their record with a win tomorrow night ( 25-19 ) and go from there. Roy Oswalt needs to pitch a great ballgame tomorrow night, because this bullpen is running on empty fumes right now. Anyway, it's just been one of those long nights -- a lot of runs, a lot of hits and a lot of scratching my head and being impressed with the solid lineup the Rangers have. But make no mistake about it, the five errors committed by the sloppy defense hurt the Astros tonight, not to mention Oscar Villarreal was really struggling. I'll definitely be watching Roy Oswalt pitch a great ballgame against the Rangers from my recliner in the living room as I relax and watch the game tomorrow night. I've been gutting it out for a few weeks now on pure adrenaline as I've been typing like a maniac during these games. People think it's slacking off, but it really is a lot of hard work to tell you the truth. I'm getting myself tired just like anybody else. Right now, I'm very pleased with where the Astros are record wise. The NL wild card is definitely a possibility for the Astros this season. I think the NL Central is as well but the Chicago Cubs will be awfully tough to catch because they rarely lose. That three-game series the Astros have coming up against the Cubs in Houston is going to be tough to win, because Moehler and Sampson are pitching two of the games, but we'll see what happens. Anyway, take care guys! Give me one or two days to refuel my system... Go Astros! Cheers!

Rotoworld on Chacon.......
" Shawn Chacon allowed eight runs -- five earned -- over 3 1/3 innings Friday.
Chacon was the victim of terrible defense, but still didn't pitch well. He allowed three homers, struck out none, and walked four. The bullpen didn't
do much better. Only reliever Dave Borowski was able to get through an inning without allowing a run. Chacon takes a 4.14 ERA into his next start against the
Cubs."

Rotoworld on Erstad....
" Darin Erstad finished 2-for-4 with two RBI Friday night but the Astros lost to the Rangers 16-8.
The Astros sure hit well. Every starter had at least one hit, with the exception of catcher J.R. Towles, who did his part with an RBI groundout in the fifth.
It was defense and, well, Josh Hamilton that cost the Astros this game. The team made five errors. Erstad, who had a big homer Thursday, is hitting .317 with
11 RBI in 60 at-bats."

And Rotoworld on our HR machine...aka Oscar HOMER-RE-AL......
" Oscar Villarreal gave up six runs -- two earned -- and three homers in his inning of relief against the Rangers on Friday.
Villarreal is sporting a 6.04 ERA. He's allowed 10 homers in 22 1/3 innings this season after surrendering six in 76 1/3 innings last year. The rest of
his peripherals are fair, but there's no way of overcoming all of those long balls."......

I had been watching the Wild Card race myself now, for about the past two weeks. Back when we were struggling to get at and stay above .500 I had noticed
we weren't that far out of a potential Wild Card spot if we could somehow hang on. Nobody else was running away with anything and luckily we've gotten
hot and madeour position that much better. I guess it is early to be watching so closely. It's also a bit sad that I was looking in to see if we may have
a Wild Card spot over the other teams because we should be striving for a division win. I'll take what I can get though :)
