What happened to that fellow was tragic. The jobs going to India was not tragic. It was our economic system working as it was designed to. What was tragic was that fellow giving up on life, giving up on himself and his family. He quit.

I really don't believe that our economic system was designed to outsource jobs to India, Bangladesh, etc. just so American workers can be laid off! How many good people do we see losing what they've worked for years for, and suffer financial loss, physical and emotional turmoil, and yes, even death, before we stop and realize that we are selling ourselves, our country, down the drain to foreign powers. But such is the nature of BIG BUSINESS -- succeed at all costs, dog eat dog, only the strong survive, etc. If they don't do it by "outsourcing", they'll do it by combining job duties onto other workers making their jobs unbearable, and laying off, or as they've done in my plant -- just have selected personnel's belongings boxed up when they arrive for work, their PC's locked, and a notice to meet in such-&-such conference room for a meeting. Upon arrival they're given the word, and lackies escort them to their belongings and escorted by security out the front door. "Sorry, we don't have a position available for you anymore," is the word; no retirement, no 401k, no future, no dreams fulfilled.

I don't think the greedy BASTARDS that move jobs overseas can get penalized enough for doing so; without the govt. getting involved. But even then, with the govt. in the mindset of protecting corporations that do so, and taking away further workers rights year after year, little will be done to stop the trend.

Yeah, I'm a conservative who voted for Kerry because of Bush's anti-union, pro-business stance. So I'm kinda rankled when I read someone say, "The jobs going to India was not tragic. It was our economic system working as it was designed to." It's NOT supposed to work that way!

I just hooked up with sbcglobal.net DSL at home -- and wouldn't ya know it, my first call to Tech Support, I asked the "foreigner" where he was based at? His very distinctly Indian voice said, "Bombay, India." 45 minutes later, after going through page after page of his instruction manual, and step-by-step the SAME procedures that I'd gone over with SBC personnel here -- HE had to activate my account from over there, so I could login the first time! RIDICULOUS! ONLY in America!
