I never saw that, at least in the DFW area.

During the peak around 1997-98, we had to bump our starting salaries for software developers to about 40-45K in order to get new hires. I know because I did a lot of technical interviews and was involved in the evaluation process. At the time, that seemed like a tremendous amount for a college grad with an IT degree and no work experience. Just 7-8 years earlier, I had entered the workforce with a sub-30K salary.

And we were competing with the telecom companies (DSC, Nortel, etc) in the north Dallas area before they went under a few years later. I never saw a college kid come in anywhere near 75K for a software job. Maybe in California or Austin (?) where the standard of living was a lot higher, but those places were not typical.
