First of all, a couple of facts on Soriano.

1) As a second baseman he made no one forget Bill Mazeroski. In fact, I think Maz could go out today and do a better job. If the Astros planned on moving him to second when Biggio retired they would have to change their non-smoking policy at MMP.

2) As LF Soriano is passable simply because he doesn't have to cover a lot of ground and it doesn't require a strong arm. Since he has speed he might grow into the position. This is his first year playing left, so he deserves some patience.

3) As a hitter he resembles Pedro Cerrano from Major League. I suppose if someone buys him a Jobu doll he might make it through okay. Seriously though, he has walked more this season, so if he continues that trend he could be an impressive power hitter. I would put him in between Berkman and Ensberg (when he returns). He should see plenty of pitches in that slot.

4) Soriano will be a free agent after the season. He and Lee are the only two hitters available, but if we offer him arbitration we get two first round picks from wherever he signs. I would suspect he would command somewhere between 12-15 million per season. We have the money to sign him with Clemens, Bagwell, and Pettitte all leaving, but the only question is whether he would want to sign here.
I'm down with OBP (yeah you know me).
