Beltran hit what, .255 in the regular season? If he did the same thing this year, the way the Astros are playing, people would call for him to be traded.

Around early August 2004, a lot of people did suggest that. The idea of flipping Beltran a second time because the Astros are "out of it" was frequently discussed in the media. If I recall, Richard Justice had a column calling on the Astros to trade Beltran and Kent. Of course, all of those proposals were long forgotten after the 04 team started its come back in mid-August.

As for Soriano, I think he is good addition...as long as the Astros feel that they will be able to re-sign. Renting Soriano isn't worth it if we give up a lot of the future. If he becomes our LFer of the next few years, then it looks like a good idea. When Soriano was with the Rangers, he said he liked staying there. And as a National, Soriano said he would like to stay there (even though that is unrealistic probably). At least he doesn't seem like a difficult person to keep happy, so long as he is playing, which he seems to do with enthusiasm.
