I think he probably got some assurance that the powers that be would consider doing away with his "punishment" in the future.

Then the powers that be became the powers that used to be.

Incidentally, I've never liked Rose as a person, but as a player, I admired him. I think MLB picked him out to make an example of him, the same way they did with Shoeless Joe.

MLB certainly has put itself in a ridiculous position, having some people enshrined that bet on baseball and blocking others.

I think they should put all of these guys in, including Bonds, and just put it on their plaque that they were accused of whatever they were accused of.

Shoeless Joe was never convicted of anything, and he actually had a good World Series for the "Black Sox."

I suspect he took the money and then double-crossed the bad guys when he got onto the field.
