I actually agree with you that baseball double-crossed Rose in terms of adding the rule about baseball's banned list be ineligible for the Hall of Fame. I believe in the BBWAA as a voting body in general. People have advocated using hard-line statistical systems and I supressed the urge to do that myself in book that will hopefully come out this Spring. I simply suggested that the BBWAA become more educated about advanced statistics and how they can help them make more intelligent votes.

However, one man's garbage is another's treasure. I have a hard time with the whole, "if he's in then this guy should be in argument." I'm not going to argue about whether there aren't or are bad guys in the HOF because that's a losing argument. All I ask of the BBWAA is that they be consistent with their own conscience and not judge their votes on what past members did. If you believe steroids are the scourge of the sport then don't let past elections of Perry, McGraw, or any other cheat deter you. You can't control what other voters do. You can only control what you do and if you fill out what you feel is a responsible ballot then I'm satisfied.

Of course, with over 400 different members we get unpredictable. That's why we get to sit here on a message board or at a sports bar over a beer and argue this point. I'd rather argue this then have an arbitrary individual or small group go back and pull plaques. In my book, I argue that some people shouldn't be in, but I would never pull their plaques.
I'm down with OBP (yeah you know me).
