Trading Clemens (with his permission) had been discussed when Roger signed. I don't recall the exact quotes in the stories, but I believe that Clemens was quoted as saying he might consider it if asked, if the Astros were out of the running. And that's where the 2006 team is headed.

In a way, it would be doing him a favor to go, say, to the Rangers. He would get a chance to win some of those 2-0 games that he now loses because the Astros can't score him any runs -- and that would add more glitter to his legend. Dallas isn't that far from Houston, so he would be very close to home.

It should do something good for the Astros by adding to their offense.

Nolan Ryan was insulted by an owner who wanted to lower his salary. Clemens certainly is getting paid handsomely for his efforts.
