Looking at the free agent market, only Julio Lugo is available from the crop of potential regular shortstops. We all know he is not an option, so the Astros are left with the possibility of being stuck with Everett. Now, I know many of you bristle at the choice of wording there, but in this market Everett could command around five million dollars a season. This is especially true if he is awarded the Gold Glove in the off-season. Is Everett really worth that much to the Astros? That would be about twice as much as he's making now.
Do you really think Everett could get $5 million on the FA market? What teams other than the Astros would want a SS that has GG potential but has shown that he can't hit a lick? (Thinking out loud - I guess a team that has 7 average to better than average hitters). And, which of those teams would be willing to pay $5 million for that type of SS? Depending upon who his agent is, I think that Everett would probably stay here for less than market value, because the Astros have treated him more than fairly through his career so far.

This discussion is interesting, but does anyone know the real deal on Everett's FA status?
