Considering Garner's statement about closers reinventing themselves, can anybody actually think of a closer who went to crap and then reinvented himself?

I can't.

Who is he referring to? The Eck in 1989? Wagner in 2001? The Eck served up one homer to Kirk Gibson and then continued to dominate. Wagner tried pitching with an injury and stunk in 2000 until he had surgery.

So who exactly is the closer that reinvented himself? Blowing a save or two isn't indicative of failing and then reinventing oneself, Scrap Iron.
