I would love to see Lidge succeed. I thought there was a good chance he could rebound this season. But it doesn't look good at all. It isn't just last night's game. If it were, I would be more upset with Qualls than Lidge. The facts are that Lidge had a 5+ ERA last season. He had a 11+ ERA in spring training. Batters are no longer afraid of Brad Lidge; instead they are going up to bat looking for the big HR. Of more concern is that he had precious few games in spring training where he didn't allow a run. The trend is not good. Personally, I think Lidge should be in Round Rock trying to get back to normal. OK, maybe that is extreme. But if he blows his next save, I think it would be best for both him and the Astros if he works on his rehabilitation at AAA, and not at the ML level. Once he can go five or six scoreless innings against AAA batters, I would be more comfortable with Lidge the ML closer.
