I never caught an adult pitcher, but I have caught my son and some of his teammates in warm up. Most of the kids throw pretty hard but my son throws a bit harder, but also his pitches are always moving. The other kids can throw hard, but they are dead straight. Lidge's fastball, even the two seam are almost dead straight. A Roger Clemens fastball is never dead straight..even now. I think this is something your are born with (that my son seems to have), a sort of natural arm/wrist action that imparts a spin to the ball the causes movement without losing velocity. Lidge isn't going to learn how to get movement on his fastball so all he can do is to try have pinpoint control..which he doesn't seem to have for quite a long time..or blow it by people. 96 mph isn't going to blow it by everybody, but he's got a better shot with that then try to use a 91-92mph two-seamer that just doesn't do a heck of a lot.
