Garner said the pitch to Nady wasn't too bad, but that it wasn't the right pitch for Nady. Apparently the Astros' plan for Nady is to pitch him high in the strike zone...so I guess he likes the low fastball. Supposedly Nady was sitting on Lidge's 2 seam fastball.

i think a problem might be that Lidge's control over his best fastball, the 4-seamer, is very inconsistent. He has gone to the 2 seam FB in order to get more strikes and more groundballs. Maybe he wanted to get ahead in the count on Nady, and the 2 seam FB was the way he thought he could get a strike. Unfortunately, it appears that his 2 seam FB might be more hittable, particularly when the hitter is a low ball hitter. Without knowing a lot more, I don't know how we can blame Ausmus. Lidge is the one executing the pitches. Ausmus has to call for pitches based on the way Lidge is executing them. For all we know, that pitch selection may have been the only option for getting a called strike in a given situation...based upon Lidge's control at the time.
