If anything, it tells me that Lidge's problems are mental in nature. The 9th inning appears to be a big mental block for him. So I don't find the outing particularly encouraging...though perhaps informative. The negative thing to me is that this may enourage Garner to pitch him in a critical situation, which could start the vicious cycle over again. I would like to see him have several more good middle relief outings, though, so that perhaps teams might offer something decent for him, and the Astros might respond by trading him. The other thought which comes to mind is that the Lidge pattern seems to indicate that perhaps he should be tried as a starter.
