Ortiz would not put up the numbers he puts up in the National League since he'd have to play first base. It's much easier to sit on the bench and get up to bat four or five times than it is to do that while fielding a position. I think the offensive statistics of Designated Hitters should be pushed aside in favor of position players. When he was Minnesota's first baseman he wasn't nearly as good of a hitter as he is now playing almost every game as DH.

Remember something about Babe Ruth, though. He was a phenomenal athlete. The guy was 6'2 and 220 pounds and could run the bases well, hit doubles and triples, and was a terrific right fielder with a rocket arm. People who saw him and lived long enough to see players in the modern era don't doubt Ruth's ability at all. Prior to becoming an outfielder he was an awesome pitcher.

Time might have forgotten a lot about him, but the records are there and so are the stories. He's arguably the greatest right fielder who ever lived.
