barzilla, I think Charles " big nasty " Spencer will be fine because there is nothing wrong with his upper body strength or shoulder. He will still maul some defenders with his raw power and strength. All he has to do is get a good grip on his man and it's over, especially in run-blocking.

My only concern will be his pass-blocking, which is critical at the Left Tackle position. Will he be able to put weight on his broken leg and have the quickness to block the faster and more smaller defensive ends like Dwight Freeney of the Colts, who will most likely blow past Spencer with ease if Spencer is less than 100 %.

That is why I thought Charles Spencer would be better playing Right Tackle after his recovery from his broken leg. Back in high school, I played both Right Guard and Right Tackle because the coach liked my big size, but he also knew I was too slow and I had shorter arms to play Left Tackle. Smaller arms is the reason why Eric Winston is not our starting Left Tackle. His technique is amazing and he's talented, but Winston has a small wingspan.

If you recall last season during the week 2 game versus Colts, which was Spencer's 2nd game starting, he did a wonderful job blocking Freeney. Unfortunately, also during that game was when big fat Ron Dayne rolled up behind his leg and broke it, on an otherwise pathetic run and play call. At the time, we were down big and needed to pass anyway.

There is no question in my opinion, that Charles Spencer has potential to be a great Left Tackle in the NFL. He could end up being a pro bowler. But it has to be a healthy Charles Spencer that we were starting to see before his broken leg.
