Quote: I guess Ausmus has to play at some point. I just wish it was more situational based on the pitcher we are facing instead of having to have him catch Oswalt everytime.

Cooper reiterated earlier this week that Ausmus will not be Oswalt's personal catcher...that Ausmus will likely catch for every starter at some point. Apparently, he relented to Oswalt's request for Ausmus Monday because Oswalt is the ace and he wanted Oswalt to be comfortable on opening day. He indicated that he would start moving Ausmus to different spots in the rotation in the future. I don't know what that means for tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised if Oswalt persuades Cooper to give him Ausmus again. I'm not really opposed to Ausmus catching Oswalt, but I think Ausmus may be better for pitchers who need the help more (e.g., Wandy). If it were my choice, I wouldn't base Ausmus' starts on the pitcher who the Astros will face, but rather on which Astros' pitcher would benefit the most from Ausmus' guidance, game calling, etc. From what he has said, I suspect that Cooper feels the same way; however, Oswalt must feel strongly about it.
