At the risk of sounding like an old man pining for the good ol' day....when I was in grad school I lived near OST, within long walking distance of the dome. The cheap seats (yellow) were $2. The team wasn't drawing that great at the time, so you could pay the $2 and then go find a better seat. I had a roommate who was a waiter at the club in the dome, and he usually had some drink tickets laying around. Even though the team wasn't winning, it was a lot of fun to go to the games on a frequent basis.

Amen....I kinda miss the Dome and the "old days"......in 1978, I started meeting a bunch of guys (whom I met at the games in the early part of the season), and we'd buy $2 seats and then sit in Field Boxes down the left field line......

The first season I bought full season tickets was 1980 (good year to start) and it was the first time they sold "Upper Boxes" as season tix. I had 2 seats on the front row directly behind HP in the upper deck....they were $3/ea.....I paid $486 for 2 great seats for every game....by 2006, I was paying $3564 for virtually the same seats...(thanks George Steinbrenner!)......with Ryan, JR, Andujar, Forsch, & Sambito, I got over a dozen foul balls that year.....I probably didn't get much more than 20 over the next 25 years....

And a youthful indescretion story: in 1971 I could only afford the Pavilion seats, but they were right up against the OF wall (the fences hadn't been moved in yet)....and they sold "buckets" of beer for $5 (about 60 oz).....Al Oliver of the Pirates was chasing down a ball hit off the LF wall and I dumped an entire bucket of beer on him and was kicked out....these days I'd be in jail......

The end of "Nickel Beer Night" in the mid-'70s probably saved my life........
