I think Morey has been pretty solid so far as GM over there. Much like the Astros, the Rockets have a hands-on owner.

The Rockets do have two NBA championships to show for it.

The Astros just missed winning the World Series in 2005. They got swept of course, but each game was a nailbiting loss in which they had countless opportunities to win each game.

The Dallas Cowboys had their fair share of success with a hands-on owner as well. A lot of that success ( building a dynasty ) was prior to the salary cap being implemented though.

Granted, the Cowboys and Rockets haven't won a playoff game ( playoff series ) in such a long time ( the year was 1997 for both teams? ). They both have that in common!

A hands-on owner isn't necessarily a bad thing.

My only complaint with Drayton McLane is his refusal to shell out the big bucks to certain players the Astros draft. Screw Bud Selig and his stupid "slot money idea" for drafted players in particular rounds. The Yankees, Red Sox and Dodgers sure don't follow those suggestions by the MLB league office. Why should Drayton McLane care what Bud Selig thinks?

In my opinion, you do what it takes to sign a drafted player!

If you have to pay twice as much, three times as much, ten times as much... Whatever, just get the drafted player signed!
