From Rotoworld....

"Jose Valverde was unavailable in Saturday's save situation because he had warmed up on four straight nights, manager Cecil Cooper said.
Valverde didn't pitch Thursday, but since he did warm up in the Astros' extra-inning loss and he did pitch on Friday, that was enough to rule him out for tonight. It makes us wonder why the Astros didn't just go ahead and use him in the tight game Thursday."

First off...he did pitch in the extra-inning loss on Wednesday(he took the L). Second..."tight game Thursday"??????? The Astros were down 7-3 entering the 9th and lost 7-5.

Finally....if he warms up that counts as an appearance toward not being able to use him in a future game. He doesn't even have to come into a game...he can just be warming up in the BP.imageimageimage Talk about babying players.image

Of course today the Astros won't need Valverde because Backe is facing Kazmir(99% chance it's a blowout). So he gets Sunday off...Monday is an off day....he got Saturday off. He got Thursday night off.

Sorry Coops....I would have used him last night.

And one more figure.....

19 pitches Tuesday(Astro loss)
15 pitches Wednesday(Astro loss)
14 pitches Friday(Astro win)

Total number of pitches thrown by Valverde this week....48.
