In fact, I was thinking about Jake Peavy at 3 a.m. in the morning when I couldn't go to sleep. I had a feeling he may become available for trade this off-season, but I had trouble trying to come up with any realistic trading pieces the Astros might be able to offer the Padres.

Roy Oswalt is great friends with Jake Peavy and the two of them spend a lot of time vacationing together, but Roy Oswalt is also good friends with Ben Sheets as well and I'm hoping that will help recruit Ben Sheets to Houston.

If only Jake Peavy were a free agent, he'd be easier for the Astros to acquire.

I think the Astros have an excellent chance to sign Ben Sheets.

Signing Ben Sheets would mean we don't need Jake Peavy.

When healthy, Ben Sheets is awesome.

Even when he's hurt, he can still be an Ace.

Hmm, but let's see if anybody can create a realistic trade offer, regarding what the Astros would have to give up, in order to land Jake Peavy.

Is it even possible to come up with anything to offer?

Since the Padres want to trim payroll, I'm thinking they would want younger players making lower salaries. What about Hunter Pence, Wandy Rodriguez, Michael Bourn, and our top two pitching prospects in the minors ( Brad James, Bud Norris? ), whomever they are. I have no clue whom they are to tell you the truth. I've just heard of James and Norris before.

I mean honestly, I just can't come up with a realistic trading offer for Jake Peavy. I'm sure the Padres will shop him around, but our minor league system is too weak. Albeit, don't the Astros have a couple of good catcher prospects? Didn't the Padres need a catcher or what position do they lack right now?

I just think it would be easier signing Ben Sheets, as oppose to trading for Jake Peavy.
