It's obvious the Astros are already looking for ways to create financial flexibility ( declining Brocail's $3.2 million option is a good start ), giving themselves more wiggle room to accomplish some other potential deals, such as re-signing LaTroy Hawkins.

It would have been highly unlikely for the Astros to exercise Brocail's $3.2 million option, while still re-signing LaTroy Hawkims to $4 million per year.

At least now the Astros are giving themselves a chance to keep LaTroy Hawkins, while at the same time giving themselves the option of bringing back Brocail at a reduced price.

It's called being a good GM, which Ed Wade clearly is.
