I agree Lidge's season this year was tremendous. Had he blown 4 or 5 of those games like a normal closer then they're probably outside the playoffs. However, that conversion rate is extremely rare. Look at Valverde. I would expect an average closer would probably only blow another 2 or 3 games, of which you can probably still wind up winning 1 or 2 of those games. Is that worth $10 million a year?

That said, I don't see us doing anything with the bullpen. Its an area of strength on a team that doesn't have many. If we made a trade I'd think the Indiands are the best deal but I'd prefer Shoppach because of his power and how much cheaper he is. Maybe a Valverde and Towles for Shoppach, Betancourt, and mid-level prospect? That clears up a little cash to be thrown a premium starter as well.
