Smitty, I've always been in this camp. Closers are definitely overrated when they get close to and certainly over the $10 mil mark. There is a value there, but it's something that can be duplicated much more cheaply.

I say this and recognize that blown saves and blown leads by the pen definitely hurt a team's psyche. You need to be able to put players in a position to win, and dealing with psyche's is part of that. But that's a managerial challenge, and I think blown saves/blown psyches can be overcome if managed properly.

That's why I want to keep a close eye on the offseason rehab progress of Felipe Paulino. Dude can gun it at 100mph, and would be a very interesting candidate for a bullpen role. Also, Octavio Dotel will be available this offseason, and he's had a decent year with the ChiSox. If Geary has a hard rehab or Brocail doesn't come back, I'd like to see Dotel back.
