He had the one year ('07? '08?) where he did quite well hitting righty to the point that LaRussa stopped bringing in lefty specialists just to face him. But I can't remember any switch-hitter giving up the practice this late in his career. In fact, the only one I can think of who gave up while in the majors was Alan Ashby...and then he returned to switch-hitting later in the season.

Much of it has to do with picking up the spin and seeing the ball. I agree with rdkapp, that you wouldn't want to change him in mid-season. You'd want to wait until spring training to try this, if at all.
