I went to Tiger Stadium in the mid-90s. There's something wonderful about being in a stadium with so much history that saw generations even before I was born making history that will endure.

But the stadium is in a run-down part of Detroit (that might be unnecessary - what part of Detroit isn't run-down?) and I didn't feel entirely safe there, even in the daytime. So I can imagine why the Tigers felt they couldn't continue there.

I was watching the All-Star Game films on MLB Network and it is a little sad to see so many stadiums in these films that no longer exist. I've always thought it was too bad that more of a stadium couldn't be preserved more than home plate and some piece of the outfield.

This new wave of cookie-cutter HOK ballparks saddens me because they all seem the same to me. When you click on a game on tv, can you tell where you are? There's a brick facade behind the plate and two rolling ad backdrops. All the seatbacks are forest green. I thought Camden Yards was a fine ballpark but MLB didn't need 30 of them.
