Rather than fire Cecil Cooper, is it possible the Astros can simply demote him to another role on the team? I'd hate to think his guaranteed salary for 2010 is going to be for nothing. The Astros would be in good shape right now if they hadn't extended his contract earlier this season. At the time, I remember Ken Rosenthal claimed he was going to be the first manager fired this season but instead he received a contract extension through next year.

And I'm almost certain Art Howe, Manny Acta and Don Baylor would be among Drayton's most logical choices of potential new managers if the Astros make a change. Don't be surprised if one of those three guys is managing the Astros in 2010.
