I really do wish he'd bring back Dierker, and then try to lure away Duncan from St. Louis.

I'd love to see that but I get the impression Dierker has moved on. I don't think he really enjoyed managing. As a manager, you have to accept that you're going to be second-guessed a lot and some people are going to work up an actual hatred of you. Dierker is a smart guy but I also think he wanted too much to be liked and that can be a problem when trying to run a ballclub. You have to be thick-skinned enough to know when you're right and do it regardless of who is unhappy with it.

Dierker also realized, to his chagrin, that he didn't get the final say on some things. Hunsicker would tell him who was/wasn't making his roster and Biggio/Bagwell were the guys running the clubhouse. There was less power in the job than he thought he'd have and yet he was the one that caught the grief if anything went wrong.

But give me Howe/Duncan or Acta/Duncan and I'm very pleased at this point.
