If McLane doesn't like Howe, why is Howe working some of the post-game shows on Astros telecasts?

I don't know what either man feels but it is not uncommon for new management to want their own people put in charge, not the ones from the old regime. McLane felt Howe was too laid back and wanted someone more fiery as the manager. So, we got Terry Collins and how did that work out?

Now, a soothing presence like Howe might be welcome after a stressful manager like Cooper. And Howe is definitely experienced with building up a young team (see 1991, 1992) and helping it mature.

So, I can't tell you if either is inclined to give this a second try but, in my mind, it would be a smart move. Howe obviously lives in Houston, has a solid managing track record and wouldn't be caught making rookie mistakes like somebody who hadn't managed in the majors before. I'm guessing he's smarter now than he was in the early 90s and would know something about our talent from having watched them for the post-game telecasts. If Phil Garner was the right call in 2004, I see Howe in much the same way.
