I don't want to hurt his feelings, but Ryan is in the habit of asserting things with no basis in fact to back them up. I have no absolutely no inside information to back anything up, but my preference would be to go outside of the Astros/Phillies connection. I don't think you can judge the quality of a manager based on his managerial record, but we need to look at this logically. Those names that were bandied about have not surfaced as candidates with any other team. So, either they are not in demand or they do not particularly want to manage again. My sense is the former. When you think about it, Drayton has never hired a manager that we might consider as a top echelon manager. Larry Dierker became one and Garner/Williams might be considered second tier guys when you look at their whole careers. Quite frankly, Terry Collins and Cecil Cooper aren't even that. I know throwing this out there is useless, but can we hire a top notch manager please? Just once? Can we hire top notch hitting and pitching coaches please? Can we hire a third base coach that isn't a human red light?
Couldn't agree more about the Astros-Phils connection. Furthermore, I've just never been all that impressed with Jim Fregosi.
