I remember many years ago hearing a knowledgeable baseball man (could've been Gene Elston, but I really don't recall who) say that every team in major league baseball is going to win 50 games and lose 50 games every season. It's what the team does in the remaining 62 that will determine its destiny in that season. Pretty simple concept and very accurate, if you ask me.
Actually, the original quote as I recall was everyone is going to win 50 games and everyone is going to lose 50 games. It's that other 50 games...etc.
So whoever came up with that phrase did so before the leagues expanded from 154 games to 162 games.

I recall making a prediction before the season started but I can't recall what it was. That seems like 20 years ago.
