The thing we have to consider is not only the tangibles but the intangibles. I'm as tangible as they come, but there is a huge psychological angle here. Consider this from his point of view. He knows his numbers the last three seasons as much as anyone. So, what does he take from it? Does he see failure or does he see success? Some players are cerebral and able to see where they end and their teammates begin. Others are more simplistic and only see their numbers. Even then I wonder. His BABIPs have been consistently high. Is that bad baseball three years running from his team or him? We can say one or the other but it's more important what he and the team believe.
