Bob: it takes passion to do something like curing cancer. If your passion is in sports then that's where your passion is. Not everyone is built to be a medical researcher. Also, just graduation from MIT hardly makes you a genius. It makes you very good at a specific set of skills. Sometimes that leads to revolutionizing the world. Much more commonly it leads to being an anonymous engineer somewhere. Luhnow/Morey could have taken their number crunching to Wall Street before they took it to curing cancer. As for insulting their parents, they've made enough money to pay for their parents, their own and their kids retirement. What more could a parent ask for?
