Bo knew the talent the Astros had wasn't very good. Bo knew the Astros were going to make decisions based on analytics and new methods for defensive shifting and pitcher use.

What Bo probably wasn't told was that his roster would be stripped to the nub for even more prospects and that he would be told how to arrange his lineup and how to positions his fielders.

When you take a managerial or head coaching job at the top level, you assume everyone in the organization is "on the same page" about trying to win as many ballgames as possible. It may be that Bo was essentially told that winning ballgames wasn't really the first priority here - that player development and decreasing debt would be the priorities and winning....well.... winning might be nice if you get close to .500 but don't look for the front office to help you out there, Bo.
