I agree with most of your column Bob. I don't like blocking kids at this stage in the game, but I tend to make exceptions when you are talking about the rotation and bullpen. This is especially true when you are signing guys to one year contracts. That's a relatively small cost to pay for depth and I don't think most of those guys are big enough fish to worry about replacing when guys like Appel and others are ready to supplant them. If you have to demote a five million dollar reliever to setup guy because a Josh Fields becomes an obvious closer (we can dream right) then that's not such a big deal. It is when you sign guys to four and five year deals when you start getting yourself in trouble.
