Sage advice, Bob. My take is always what the score was after 4 innings at this stage. Starting in week 3, I up that to 6 innings. At some point towards the end, I start paying closer attention to who is closing out the games. Still, it doesn't count even then so the players don't have the same intensity. It is literally black and white what a player thinks in Spring Training from when the games count. They'll do some things just to try it out. I recall Shane Reynolds (maybe RoyO) saying one game he pitched only curves because he wanted to work on the mechanics. Obviously, that's not a game situation and the results are not indicative.

About two weeks to go, the players will start amping it up. That's when you really should pay closer attention to the match ups and such. For now, just enjoy that a human being is throwing a live ball towards a live batter. Fun to watch, but nothing predictable.
