Santana had me looking up the subject of most at bats by a non-pitcher in a major league career without getting a hit. The record is 23 shared by two players you probably don't remember:

One is Cleveland outfielder Larry Littleton who was 0-for-23 in 1981 but he did walk three times, scored twice and drove in a run. He struck out only six times. Oddly enough, he was traded in his career twice for two other guys named Larry who had Astros ties. Pitcher Larry Anderson was part of the deal that sent Littleton from Pittsburgh to Cleveland and infielder Larry Milbourne was the player Cleveland got when they shipped him to Minnesota after his rookie season.

The other player is Mike Potter, a St. Louis Cardinals outfielder who went 0-for-16 in 1976 then followed that with 0-for 7 in 1977. Potter walked once and struck out eight times. Potter was sent to the expansion Seattle Mariners after that but even the lowly Mariners could not use him.

Fortunately for Santana, spring ABs don't count or he'd be tied with them after a hitless spring. Still, 0-for-17 with 14 strikeouts is an amazing record for futility I'm sure he'd rather get off his back.
