This topic came up at the board gathering (all four of us) and may have happened before you got there. Pat was remarking about how it's funny that the chatter surrounding Bryant and the chatter surrounding Springer last season has been very different. Everyone seems to be "understanding" that the Cubs have to do this to delay his clock. Yet, last season everyone was crucifying the Astros for keeping Springer down. Either way, this is just plain silly. In no other sport do you see teams deliberately not play guys that have proven themselves ready. Could you imagine the New York football Giants keeping Beckham on the bench to somehow keep his costs down? Could you imagine the same happening with Wiggins in the NBA or any other famous rookie from past seasons? I would have loved it if the Colts had done that with Luck.

Of course, in no other sport (or even walk of life) do you have arbitration in the first place. I have half a mind to walk into my principal's office and say I'm worth 100K to you. He would counter with 50 and then we would have three people that know nothing about education hear evidence on both sides. This needs to be fixed in the next collective bargaining agreement.
