Why can't the teams simply inform players they consider a risk (i.e: high school kids or anyone they might be willing to take in the first 3-5 rounds) that they expect them to provide medical records and have a physical conducted 30 days prior to the draft. These kids will be responsible for getting the physical or not getting it themselves. I'm sure the agents and reps can get them in to see a doctor and provide the teams with everything they need. Should the kid not want to do it that is certainly their prerogative but it will give the teams more leverage when negotiating. This doesn't have to be complicated and this circumvents the need to change the CBA by forcing potential draft picks to do something. It is merely a suggestion. Unless you are the Astros you don't get a ton of #1 overall picks so the team should be protected and should have as much information as possible to avoid the scenarios we had here.

I heard them mention on the radio that the Astros could have asked Aiken to get a physical prior to the draft and did not do their due diligence. Does anyone have any thoughts on that?
