I think you are all forgetting one key aspect of this draft is that we drafted an unproven high school pitcher with the #1 overall pick.

I never supported that pick and I will never support drafting a high school player 1-1 unless the kid is hyped like Strasburg or Harper. Aiken was worth a 1-1 pick but he wasn’t the sure thing that Strasburg or Harper were. SI predicting a 2017 WS doesn’t mean he was a unanimous #1 pick just that they saw a lot of potential. So, yes, the Astros are vindicated in how they handled him once the pick was made but that doesn’t excuse them from taking him in the first place. I won’t be giving them a pass on the draft or apologizing for giving them crap for blowing the pick. At the end of the day the Astros drafted a kid with medical issues with the #1 overall pick and ended up becoming the first team in history to fail to sign the #1 overall pick. Because of this they also lost out on Jacob Nix and Marshall. They get a compensation pick this year but they missed out on two or three possible studs from this draft in Rodon and Nix (and possibly Aiken if he rebounds).

As for them drafting Aiken because he was the best vs because they believed they could sign 2 or 3 with the money they saved on him I will never believe they drafted the guy they truly believed was the best talent. I will always believe they were trying to game the system and I see no evidence to the contrary. They did it in 2012 with Correa, they did it in 2013 with Appel and they did it in 2014 with Aiken. Sorry but nothing I have seen truly makes me think otherwise.

Also, when you are sitting here patting the Astros on the back for bailing on the #1 pick and maybe getting that right remember that we could have these three guys in our system and coming to the majors all at the same time:

Correa, Bryant, Rodon.

Instead we have

Correa, Appel and a player to be named later

Now tell me the Astros played the last three drafts correctly.
