I'm with you there, Grydian. I think for baseball more than any other sport, although I think it's true in other sports as well, drafts are not busts in direct correlation to whether or not a top draftee becomes a superstar, or even plays in the Majors. It's certainly an optimal result, but there are so many many things that can alter the trajectory of a player. Also, I think where you hit the nail on the head is the Astros' approach to recent drafts - getting the most out of it overall and not just one big namer. The Astros were addressing organizational weakness with a time goal in mind of mid-decade. We're now in 2015 and these guys are showing up when the winning trajectory is going up as well. When you really focus is next year, when Correa, Appel, etc., starting hitting their strides. This was/is a three or four year approach to the draft that will culminate in two picks this year out of the top 5. If it works, that approach will keep us from having that situation for a long time to come, happily.
