I don't think you can call Corera, Appel or a #2 draft pick organizational depth. Will you eat those words if in two years Appel is a success and those two are not? Rodon is well developed college pitcher. His ceiling isn't that high. He was rated as a great prospect not because of his pure talent but his readiness for the big leagues. I don't want to waist a top draft pick on someone who will be ready quickly I want once in a decade talent. They thought Aiken was that talent. He was damaged goods. You can't say he was an attempt to save money. He flat out was the most talented pitcher available. Just not the highest rated prospect. Rating a prospect is not solely dependant on talent alone. You also rate how likely it is a player will make it to the big leagues. Rodon has a very good chance of being a MLB pitcher of some caliber. That doesn't make him the best player to help us win a world series down the road. Don't let the prospect rankings be the only factor in determining their value. Thats just too simple of an approach to analyzing a draft.
