Good catch Bob. I think the mistake that we (and the organization) are making is that every draft is organic to itself. You cannot walk into every draft with the same philosophy or you will get burned. You have to look at the available talent and plan accordingly. The Astros obviously decided that Appel was the best choice in the 2013 draft. Was it a mistake? I think he was certainly the best pitcher available, but that might not be saying much. If it were me, I would lean more towards position players on top of the draft, but even that has to be tempered by what is available. Our bullpens have been weak in recent years, but if you look at our club overall you would see that our hitting has trailed our pitching nearly every since 2005. Yet, they keep focusing on pitching. I believe that they thought that Aiken was a better prospect than Rodon. I believe they thought that Appel was a better choice than Bryant. Both of those decisions might prove to be mistakes.
