Not even including the last draft and this is what I am seeing...

For all of our "organizational depth" we essentially were able to draft Rio Ruiz, Lance McCullers and Andrew Thurman because we played this game. Then, coincidentally, we shipped them off for Evan Gattis (minus Lance). So here’s how the deal totals out… Byron Buxton and Kris Bryant for Mark Appel, Carlos Correa, Lance McCullers and Evan Gattis. A 5 tool CF prospect (albeit with injury concerns) and the next premiere basher in the game for a high school SS who hasn’t played above AA (who also is coming off an injury), a former well regarded college prospect who fell on hard times his first professional year, and an injury prone negative defender who strikes out, and besides the power, is a below average hitter against righties, which essentially screams platoon.

Now, I think we got extremely blessed to have Correa in the system and I’m very excited for him but I would still rather have Bryant in our system than the combo platter that is Appel, McCullers and Gattis. That’s just me.

As to the question of if I would eat my words… Absolutely. Nothing would make me happier than to see Appel, Correa and our #2 pick come up and dominate. I WANT the Astros to win. My concern has always been that I have some questions over how we are constructing our team and question the moves and the motives behind those moves. The Rockets are an excellent analog for this. I have watched Morey make trade after trade only to deplete our team and depth but then he turns around and deals from a position of strength and brings in Dwight Howards or James Harden. I don’t have the same level of faith in Luhnow and, I think even he would admit this, he hasn’t proven anything yet. If you looked only at the players he has drafted and his track record (especially recently) I think you would all admit to being skeptical. The farm system has dropped from #1-#2 to #10-#14 and his recent two drafts have obvious question marks.
