Barz - that's not 100% accurate, in my opinion. First, we didn't get Moran from ATL so it isn't accurate to say that if he works out then Ruiz doesn't matter and it is essentially just Folty that we gave up. We traded three prospects for Gattis in Folty, Thurman and Ruiz (the latter two immediately became two of the best prospects in the Braves system) and if Gattis is a wash then you wasted two top prospects on him regardless of what Moran does. Ruiz and Folty had value and while Ruiz may not have had a future here because of Moran he could have brought a lot more in return than Gattis, especially when paired with a pitcher who is now the #2 prospect in ATL. I would rather have Ruiz on the bench than Grossman, Marwin or Villar. Moran might have made Ruiz expendable but it isn't like he was blocked. Heck, we traded for a third baseman as soon as we traded away Ruiz so it wasn't like we HAD to get rid of him or his contract was expiring. I'm not saying Gattis is a bust or anything so don't anybody start screaming about sample size but it will be very hard to swallow if one or both of Folty/Ruiz have ML success and Gattis doesn't.

I just don't understand this Blast or Bust philosophy by Luhnow. All home runs or strikeouts carries so much risk and he seems to have built a team around that very idea. Gotta say I think there are gonna be a lot of long months ahead. So many of our guys have big long swings (Singleton was one of the worst) and is pitchers find holes in their swings then it doesn't matter how strong they are they aren't getting a hit. We could have 3-4 guys on the roster who hit 30 homers and drive in 45 runs with a BA under .250
