Keith Law had some interesting Aiken-related nuggets in his weekly chat yesterday:

Q: Knowing what we now know about Aiken, do you think the Astros did the right thing last summer or was it still not handled well?

A: I think two things on that: One, they were put in a difficult situation where they had to assess the risk of something where they probably had no historical data to use to assess it; and two, they did a poor job of handling the messaging around the process, saying nothing (perhaps at MLB's behest) when some external discussion or comment would have helped them maintain their image. I can understand them feeling like they did nothing wrong, but you can do nothing wrong and still look like you did something wrong because people on the outside (which would include me in this case) only have a portion of the truth.

Q: I noticed in last week's chat that you mentioned that Aiken's injury was more complicated than Matuella. Can you explain the reason it is more complicated? Thanks.

A: His surgery was more complicated. Matuella's was routine. Aiken's was not. I am not in a position to say whether Aiken's prognosis differs significantly, but I am imputing that it is worse than Matuella's.
