My understanding is that he's going to be announcing his decision on February 1. So there will still be a while to wait and wonder.

Some people think that, now that Beltran's gone, Rocket will be gone as well. Others believe that, since he hasn't had his season pitching with Pettitte, he'll be back for one more.

I know that what I want and what I think don't necessarily match up. One has to wonder whether pitching for a non-contending team is worth staying in the extra year and putting off his induction.

He's worried about his mother's health and he'd like to see the pride in her eyes when he's inducted. I don't really think it's about her because I have a mother and I know what she would say to me. She would tell me not to worry about her and to do what I really wanted and that she would be proud of me if I did my best. And she'd mean it. And I think most mothers are like that. So long as you're acting in a responsible manner, your mom wants you to have a good time and to do your best at whatever you're doing. Are there any moms here? Do I have that pretty much right?

Anyway, Roger has to decide for himself what he wants to do and why. No one else can decide for him and there are probably lots of big and small things that go into his decision. That's why he's giving himself the rest of January to decide.

We also have a decision. We can wait anxiously or we can wait patiently. I'm waiting patiently. Pitchers and catchers don't report until the 17th and that's more than two weeks into February. That's plenty of notice if he decides to walk away. And Tim Purpura should be prepared for that anyway, so that if he decides to hang on, it'll be gravy, not bread and butter.

Everybody kind of perceives me as being angry. It's not anger, it's motivation.
